Council offer lease and terms agreed [May 2010]
Following a meeting at the end of March with senior members of Cornwall Council Farm Service it has been agreed that we are to be offered an 18 month lease on the farm.
This is brilliant news and a handsome reward for all the hard work that has been put in over the last 5 months by those involved with this project.
Well as they say - the work has really just begun on this ambitious project - to show that that anyone interested can get involved in producing food and be part of the community farm. We will shortly start clearing up the site and preparing the land for planting. There are many many jobs to do so if you have a few hours to spare and would like to help please get in touch. Cornwall Council Chief Land Agent meeting [11th Nov 2009]
On Wednesday 11th November 2009 we met to discuss options for the farm with Cornwall Council's Chief Land Agent, with our Cornwall Council Councillor, and with representatives from the Town Council, Penwith & Truro College, Cape Cornwall School, Lands End Peninsula Community Land Trust, St Just Allotment & Growers Association and members of the Chamber of Trade.
We reported that in the previous week we had had an overwhelming sign of local support with over 350 contacting us stating they wished the farm to stay in community ownership.
The County Land Agent told us that at present the strategy of the council is to sell of these small farms and to use the proceeds to improve the larger, more economic farms. He also said that the plan at present was to put Bosavern Farm on the open market in February. If we came up with a robust business plan before Christmas showing clearly how we would make the farm viable then he would ask the Council Portfolio holders (Councillors) responsible for this Council services to consider giving us a 15 month lease so we had time to seek funding to purchase the farm
This is a big challenge for our group but we believe we can do. If you have specialist skills or knowledge and/or time to give to this project please get in touch as there are many jobs to do so all offers of help welcome.
