CSA Winner 2015

Joint winners of the Cornwall Sustainability Awards 2015 in the category “Best Contribution to a Sustainable Food Economy – From Nature to Plate”.

The Bosavern Community Bee Garden and Bee Ed-Shed is being built between March and October with a grant from Grow Wild UK – through Kew Gardens.

The project is to enable young people to connect with nature through the sowing of native wildflowers.

Something’s buzzing at Bosavern

As bees are one of the planet’s top priorities right now we are creating a beautiful and buzzing bee garden- with beekeeping training apiary and a bee education shed which will house 2 observation hives where we can home happy bees and educate people about the links between flowers, pollinators, food and people.

Get involved!

It is an ambitious project with 6 imaginative individual areas within the garden- among them a living wall mural and a huge herb hexagon – ideally we are looking for 6 groups of young people (ages 11-25) to help with the creation and future upkeep of the area and adults to help lead.

Get involved with our bee education centre supported by Kew Garden and Grow Wild

We have several partners in the project already who have very generously offered to donate their time and skills to making the project extra special- and we are looking for a couple more- if you would like to become a partner and have specific skills or time to give then get in touch.

We have invited local business, trades people and individuals to support our bee-education centre to help make it a really special community asset. Many thanks to our sponsors for their valuable support:

Wilkins & Company Estate Agents, St.Just

JM Landscaping and Maintenance

  • Planting broad beans
This year we decided not to overwinter any broad beans due to the problems of rodents and wind which have damaged us over the past few years. So we began by sowing beans in module trays in the polytunnel in January (we have just sown our fourth succession), and those beans were planted out on […]
  • Our first permanent raised bed outside
In January we split the market garden into two equal halves, each of about one acre, with one half to be worked by tractor and one by hand (this latter to include the polytunnels, fruit cage, perennial beds, and permanent raised beds). The tractor-worked half will be ploughed soon, and the available parts of the […]
